The Pretoria North police arrested a 56-year-old man on Tuesday morning after a 22-year-old man was shot and wounded earlier this month.
Rekord reported that a wounded man stumbled into the police station on 12 May after being shot in Danie Theron Street. The bullet entered his upper body under his left arm. At the time it was unclear who had shot the man.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlane said police received a tip off from an eyewitness on Tuesday who had seen the shooting.
She said the victim and the eyewitness accompanied the police to the man’s house and identified a 24-year-old man as the possible shooter.
“But when the man’s father walked into the police station, the eyewitness and victim realised he was the actual shooter.”
Phatlane explained that the father and son looked alike, which was why the son was first identified as the gunman.
The police let the 24-year-old man go and arrested the father.
She said police confiscated three pellet guns from the arrested man’s house, but it was not clear whether the shooter had used a pellet gun.
The arrested man was set to appear in court soon.
