A Soshanguve woman is being questioned by police in connection with the murder of a 48-year-old man in Soshanguve on Tuesday.
Sello Andrew Malapane was sitting in his car with an unnamed woman in front of her Soshanguve Block FF home late on Tuesday afternoon when three unknown, armed men approached them and knocked on the driver’s window with a gun.
“When the driver opened the door to try and talk to them, the suspects shot him several times and fled,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena.
The woman got out of the car and ran into her house screaming as the shots were being fired. She told police in a statement that she came out later to check what was happening and found Malapane dead, lying face down in a pool of blood.
“She then contacted the police and paramedics were called. Malapane was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Mangena. “The woman denied personally knowing Malapane, and said she had only asked him for a lift to her parents’ house.”
The motive for the murder is not yet known.
“The suspects did not take anything, except his life,” said Mangena. Malapane’s belongings, including car keys, cellphone, wallet and car, were still at the scene when police arrived. Mangena said police believed the woman could help them with their investigations as they began to put the puzzle together. “It’s horrible. I mean, it’s just horrible. There’s no excuse. Nothing justifies murder,” said Mangena.
