Joint crime operation nets 17 suspects in Pretoria North safety drive
Local security teams and police targeted parks and set up roadblocks during a weekend safety operation in Pretoria North.
A joint safety drive in Pretoria North has resulted in 17 arrests as community security groups and law enforcement stepped up weekend patrols.
The operation was activated through the Magalies OPS, with AfriForum Noord van die Berg, AfriForum Wes-Moot and AfriForum Brits working alongside security companies and members of the Pretoria North SAPS and National Traffic Police.
AfriForum spokesperson Ruan Janse van Vuuren said the joint operation highlighted the importance of co-operation between safety stakeholders.
The operation included crime prevention activities at several parks in the Pretoria North area, where security teams conducted patrols and checks.
TRT Security owner Stefan Maloney and his K9 unit, alongside Wolverine Protection Services, conducted drug-detection searches in the area.
The teams later set up a drunk-driving roadblock where 11 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Janse van Vuuren said the operation was supported by a radio network that allowed participating teams to remain in contact throughout the activities.
A licence plate recognition team also operated alongside GAC Risk Solutions, assisting with vehicles flagged in connection with suspected criminal activity.
In total, 17 people were arrested during the operation, including 11 for drunk driving, five for drinking in public and one for possession of drugs.
Joint efforts boost public safety
Janse van Vuuren said co-operation between the groups strengthened safety efforts in Pretoria North and surrounding areas.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by participating safety organisations to support law enforcement and create safer public spaces for residents and park users.
