Rape suspects of 12-year-old girl still on the run

Police are still looking for three suspects who raped a 12-year-old girl in Soshanguve.

Soshanguve police have appealed to members of the community to help them with information that could lead to the arrest of three suspects who allegedly raped and assaulted a 12-year-old girl in Extension 4 on 3 March.

“The 12-year-old girl was walking alone in the street, apparently on her way home from a friend’s house in Extension 4, when she was approached by three men,” police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mathews Mosia said.

“One of the said men pointed a gun at her and forced her to go into a tavern with them. They then dragged her to an RDP house in the vicinity, where they all raped her until the next morning. She was repeatedly assaulted during the ordeal,” said Mosia.

The suspects are said to be between the ages of 23 and 34 years.

One of them is known as Thabo Petrus Malesa, aka ‘Kokobela’, and is on parole.

Police confirmed the man was arrested and appeared in court, but said they were still investigating why he was later released. Anyone with information is requested to contact the police on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the SMS line 32211.
