Theunis De Bruyn has been appointed vice-captain of the Unlimited Titans in all the three formats of the game — T20, ODI and four-day test matches.
The 22-year-old Pretorian was on top form in the 2014/2015-season, smashing an unbeaten 202 in his maiden game for the South African “A” side.
He also hammered two tons in the Momentum One Day Cup competition, including a match-winning 152 against the Warriors.
De Bruyn said he felt honoured and privileged to be given this role at a young age.
“I was told by Coach Rob Walter earlier this week that I’m going to be a permanent vice-captain for the team. I believe this will be a learning curve for me. As a youngster, you feel more part of the team if you are given responsibilities.”
Walter said Theunis had displayed leadership characteristics from the outset.
“One of our responsibilities as management of the team is to provide the best platform for successful leadership in the future. We hope that by giving Theunis this responsibility, it will fast-track his growth as a leadership figure in the franchise.”
Henry Davids will continue at the helm of The Unlimited Titans in their domestic four-day campaign of 2015/2016, while international all-rounder Albie Morkel will captain the Titans in both limited-over formats next season.
