On CCTV footage of about one minute, the resident is seen being followed into his driveway at 6.30pm on June 22 and narrowly escaping from the violent attackers, Krugersdorp News reported.
As the man’s automatic gate closed behind him after arriving home, the suspects can be seen rushing on to the property. For a few seconds the suspects disappeared into a blind corner, and one of them is seen circling the bakkie.
Seconds later the gate reopens, and the resident is seen reversing out of his driveway at high speed, with the suspects running after him.
The bakkie is seen reversing down the street as the suspects flee the scene.
“It is important that homeowners keep a watchful eye when they approach their homes or when they leave it. For this reason it is important to have sufficient light close to your gate during night time and preferably also shining on to your driveway, also making sure that foliage on the pavement is kept to the minimum or at least trimmed to minimise hiding space close to the gate.”

Security company Elect Protect Response (EPR) West Rand said: “Should you detect anything out of the ordinary it is better to drive past and contact your security company to investigate the matter.”
EPR general manager Johan Krogh warned residents to not open garage doors until the gates have closed.
“To this extent it is better always to open the gate once you are right in front of it. As an additional measure, test and make sure you have a remote panic button in the vehicle, and that it works from your driveway. When installing CCTV systems we always suggest a cluster of four cameras at the main gate facing up and down the street and into and out of the driveway,” said Krogh.
This after a Midrand man was followed home and robbed at gunpoint by two men driving a white Mercedes Benz in a “follow-home” incident caught on camera in Gauteng last year.
Police said the resident pulled up to his complex gate and was approached by two men who drove up behind him in a white Mercedes Benz.
The CCTV footage filmed by Ria Sebetsa Security Services showed one of the robbers walking up to the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle, while the other walked to the drivers’ side and pointed a firearm at the driver.
The video shows the robbers taking money from the man, running back to the Mercedes Benz and driving off. The victim was left unharmed.
Ria Sebetsa managing director Danny Maduray told The Citizen that follow-home robberies were reported daily.
