Security man stabbed three times in the face

During an apparent theft in Waverley on Monday night, a member of a security company was stabbed three times in the face.

A security officer from Kilnerpark Security was stabbed three times in the face when he confronted suspected robbers in Waverley on Monday night.

Klaas van der Kooi, Kilnerpark Security spokesperson, said the man who was attacked is Gary Green (38) who has been working at the company for five to six years.

“Gary was alone in the vehicle when he followed a suspicious vehicle, towing an Uno,” Van der Kooi said.

When the vehicle pulled over in Baviaanspoort, on the old Moloto road, Green stopped some distance away.

“Though he did not confront the men, they attacked Gary through his vehicle window, stabbing him with a sharp object and assaulting him.”

Green fled his vehicle and ran into the field to get away from his attackers, at which time they fled the scene.

Green was taken to hospital after the incident.

“Luckily he was not injured too badly and he will be released from hospital today,” Van der Kooi said.

“He has already confirmed that he will be at work on Friday so we are glad he is OK.”

According to Van der Kooi, the Uno had been stolen by Green’s attackers in Codonia Avenue in Waverley, but was later returned to its owner, who was very grateful to have it back.

“This was an isolated incident, but we urge everyone to be cautious of dangerous situations,” he said.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said the police were still investigating the incident.

“A case of theft of a motor vehicle is currently being investigated, while additional assault and robbery investigations will be launched as soon as Gary has given his personal statement today,” Miller said.
