Police were on Wednesday searching for an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court this week.
Frans ‘funky’ Rabothata was set to appear in court on theft charges on Monday when he managed to escape.
Provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said an investigation to ascertain how Rabothata got out of the court cells was continuing.
“It is alleged that police officers working at the court cells discovered that Rabothata had escaped when they were busy with a roll-call for suspects to be taken to correctional services for detention,” he said
“Should police officers found to have been negligent, disciplinary steps would be taken against them. They may also face criminal investigation that may lead to their dismissal from the service.”
