Three caught with copper cables

Hercules police arrest 3 men in possession of stolen copper cables.

Hercules police recently caught three men in possession of stolen copper cables in Zandfontein.

The men, aged 29, 31 and 32, were arrested on the corner of Erma and Congella streets in Zandfontein smallholdings in the Moot.

“Around 05:30, police on patrol spotted a white truck with aluminium cables. They pulled the truck over,” police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said.

The men were unable to produce documentation for the cables in the truck and police arrested them.

“The cables were identified as Eskom aluminium cables. They weighed 832kg and were valued at about R15 175.”

The three men would spend the weekend in the police holding cells and would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police urged people to report any unusual activity to help curb cable theft in the area.

Investigations were continuing, Msimango said.
