SPCA inspector hijacked and detained
The Tshwane SPCA is pleading with the community to keep a look out for their hijacked vehicle.
A Tshwane SPCA inspector was hijacked and held at gunpoint for nearly four hours on Thursday night.
SPCA spokesperson Korky Levanon said Andrew Kekana was in an SPCA official vehicle when he was accosted near Cullinan.
“He was held at gunpoint for over four hours, while the hijackers took his personal bank card and drew the maximum daily limit,” she said.
“They then waited until after midnight to get access the next day’s limit.”
Levanon said once the hijackers had withdrawn all they money they could, they left Kekana in a remote area and fled the scene in the official SPCA vehicle that has branding on it.
The hijackers also took the inspector’s personal belongings as well as the Tshwane SPCA’s cellphone, laptop, control pole, captive bolt, camera, catching net and euthanase.
“Euthanase is a schedule 6 drug, which is potentially lethal in the wrong hands.”
Levanon said the hijacking had been reported to police and Kekana had been treated for a head injury.
“The Tshwane SPCA is in the process of getting the emergency number replaced, and in the event of an after-hours emergency, can be contacted on 083-268-5613 in the meantime.”
She urged anyone with information on the hijacking to call the same number or send an email to admin@spcapta.org.za.
