A father and his son were shot dead in a tavern in Soshanguve at the weekend, police said on Monday.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said this happened at the Matlala Tavern, Block T after a fight broke out on Saturday.

“A group of men were gambling at a tavern in the early hours of Saturday when suddenly a fight ensued. Apparently the 23-year-old son’s money was taken from him by a fellow gambler,” Mangena said.

“The man then called his father and a few minutes later, his father came to confront the alleged perpetrator. During the confrontation, the father was shot three times in the chest and when his son tried to get involved, he was shot twice, both of them died on the scene.”

Mangena said the shooter ran away but was found and arrested on Saturday.

“The suspect was caught in Soshanguve Block T, and his gun was also found but with no bullets,” he said.
