How to stay safe during a hijacking

Hijackings have unfortunately become part of our daily lives in South Africa. To protect yourself, consider these tips.

No one ever wants to think about being hijacked and being left at the side of the road or — even worse — being killed for your car.

But, unfortunately, according to the South African Insurance Crime Bureau, in Gauteng, hijackings have increased by 17.8% in the past year.

A trend that appears to have spiralled out of control, is the sudden rise in ‘blue-light’ hijackings.

According to Dialdirect Insurance, these hijackings are conducted by people who disguise themselves as police who use blue flashing lights or other means to stop and then hi-jack drivers.

Head of Dialdirect, Warwick Scott-Rodger recommends the following tips to stay safe during a hijacking:
