Mamelodi cluster police had arrested 95 people over the weekend for various crimes committed.
Mamelodi cluster spokesperson, Sergeant Sam Shibambo, said they were arrested during a crime prevention operation that began on Friday evening and ended on Sunday morning.
“The operation was mainly focused on general policing activities such as looking for wanted criminals and patrolling hotspot areas,” he said.
He added that during the operation, eight suspects were arrested for possession of drugs such as nyaope, cat and dagga.
“Four motorists were also taken into custody for drunken driving during this operation. Several other persons were arrested for crime such as public drinking, contravention of the Road Traffic Act and other minor offences,” said Shibambo.
According to Shibambo, the majority of the suspects who committed less serious offences were released with a warning. The other people who were arrested will appear in court soon.
