Hartbeespoort escaped suspect recaptured
Following a tip off, the Hartbeespoort police have managed to arrest one of the five Hartbeespoort suspects, Asley Mayepi, on Thursday afternoon.

Following a tip-off, the Hartbeespoort police have managed to arrest one of the five Hartbeespoort suspects, Asley Mayepi, on Thursday afternoon. Mayepi was among the five suspects who escaped police custody on 4 July just before midnight.
Hartbeespoort police spokesperson Major Hezekiel Dikgang said: “the suspect was arrested after the police received an anonymous tip-off on Mayepi’s whereabouts confirmed to be in Diepsloot, Johannesburg.”
The suspect was caught and did not resist arrest. The 27-year-old Malawian born was arrested for robbery earlier this year and he will be questioned for any information regarding the whereabouts of the other four suspects.
The suspect will now face two counts of charges, one for his previous conviction which was robbery and the other for escaping police custody. He will be prosecuted at the Brits Magistrate’s Court in North West on a date to be confirmed.
Dikgang also added that police are still investigating how these five suspects managed to escape and would provide the public with more information regarding any further arrests.
“We would like to thank the community and their efforts, and we urge them to offer more assistance as we continue to look for the remaining four suspects,” said Dikgang
The four other suspects who escaped with him are still at large.
Anthony Chauke, 32, from Mozambique, arrested for stock theft, Samuel Mariti, 27, arrested on a housebreaking charge, Nicholas Masipa, 27, from Zimbabwe arrested on an alleged robbery charge and Phillip Masingili, 33, also known as ‘Louis Fabian’ from Mozambique arrested on a housebreaking charge.
We appeal to members of the public not to confront these suspects, but to alert Hartbeespoort police Major Hezekiel Dikgang on 082-492-3994.
