Police are still looking for an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court last Monday.
Provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini told Rekord on Thursday that Frans ‘Funky’ Rabothata is still on the run but they are hopeful he will be arrested soon.
Rabothata was set to appear before the court on charges of fraud, but he somehow managed to escape. Dlamini earlier said Rabothata has another pending case of theft at Rietgat police station. Investigations are continuing to establish how the suspect escaped from the court cells.
“It is alleged police officers working at the court cells discovered the suspect had escaped when they were busy with a roll-call for the suspects who were to be taken to correctional services for detention,” he said.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the police on the crime stop number 08600 10111 or the SMS line 32211.
