Brutal murder resolved
The alleged murderer of Maria Ntuli has been arrested after the police matched his DNA with the DNA they found at the scene of the crime more than a year ago.
A distraught mother is at peace after her daughter’s alleged murderer was finally caught by the Sinoville police.
The brutally murdered 20-year-old Maria Ntuli’s body was discovered in January 2014 in Sinoville. Since the gruesome discovery police said they dedicated their time to find Ntuli’s murderer.
Mamelodi cluster commander Maj-Gen George Seswike said on Tuesday morning the illegal foreign national man who had been arrested on 12 June was linked to Ntuli’s murder after his DNA matched the DNA police found at the scene.
Seswike did not go into details about how they managed to trace the Mozambican man but said it was a result of dedicated and thorough police investigation. “The man was arrested in Sinoville on 12 June and appeared in court on 15 July.”
He said that it was very difficult to trace an illegal foreign national who had committed a crime and commended police for their diligence.
Sinoville CPF chairperson Vernon Smith said the arrest was brought about through excellent detective work. “We are so proud of the police who never gave up on the case. We cannot always tie the knot but through perseverance police managed to find the alleged culprit,” a proud Smith said.
Acting spokesperson of Sinoville police station Warrant Officer Johan (Chopper) van Dyk said he especially wanted to congratulate the team of detectives who worked on the case. He said Sergeant Matthews Montoedi and his commander, Lieutenant Colonel André de Jager, laid the groundwork for the investigation from the start.
“De Jager and his team of detectives worked for nine days non-stop to find the suspect after receiving the DNA match. We want to commend their hard work,” Van Dyk said.

Maria’s mother said she was very happy with the police investigation and that her child is now at peace.
“Maria was attending college and wanted to work in a bank. She was a caring and loving person. I am thankful the man has been brought to justice,” a grateful Sophy said.
Seswike said Maria and Sophy were on route to Montana Traders when the murder occurred.
“The mother and daughter were separated on route to the shopping centre. Later the mother phoned the daughter but she did not answer her phone. The following day the mother reported her daughter as missing. The daughter’s body was later discovered,” he said.
