Police arrest bank robbery suspects

Daring bank heist leads to shootout.

Six suspects were arrested after a shootout with police following a bank robbery on Thursday morning.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, the robbery occurred in the early hours of the morning.

“Thirteen suspects attempted to rob a bank in the Temba cluster area at Kopanong complex,” said Dlamini.

He added: “The suspects gained entry from the TAB horseracing betting offices situated next to the Nedbank and broke the wall down between the two premises. A grinder was used to gain entry to the bank’s safe, and they took an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Police responded after they were alerted. When they arrived, the robbery was still taking place. A shootout ensued between the police officers and the alleged bank robbers.

“Nobody was injured in the shootout, and the police managed to arrest six of the thirteen suspects,” added Dlamini.
