Suspected serial killer to apply for bail
Suspected serial killer to appear on September.
Suspected Mamelodi serial killer Daniel Ntokozo Masango (25) will reappear in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application on 10 September.
He briefly appeared Wednesday on three charges of kidnapping, murder and the rape of Katlego Ndlovu (23). Masango was arrested on 4 May after he was linked to the death of Ndlovu, who was found dead and raped behind a Shell Garage in Mamelodi East.
Mamelodi residents, joined by the ANC Women’s League and the 4+1 Taxi association gathered outside court and demanded the law to take its course against Masango.
They demanded the court should take the case seriously and quickly prosecute the suspect.
Gogo Dlovana, regional secretary of the ANC Women’s League said: “We are going to sign another petition to make sure that the suspect is not granted bail on September 10. This is a serious case and we think it is about time the trial starts. Justice must prevail,” said Ndlovana.
She also encouraged residents to speak out against violence against women.
Senior prosecutor Anne-Marie Bendeman said the case has been postponed to September 10 for a formal bail application. “The suspect has not pleaded yet. We are ready to proceed and waiting for an allocated trial date from the High Court.”
Bendeman also confirmed the court had received a petition from Mamelodi residents of Ward 23 on 18 May that the suspect should not be granted bail and should remain in custody as they were fearing for revenge from residents.
Jabulane Mashiane chairperson of the 4+1 Mamelodi Taxi association said he was happy with the support of residents to th Katlego family.
