Police nabs man transporting R1.5 million

The Hammanskraal flying squad police unit arrested a 33-year-old man in possession of R1.5 million in his BMW vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The Hammanskraal flying squad police unit arrested a 33-year-old man in possession of R1.5 million in his BMW on Wednesday afternoon.

The man was arrested near Hammanskraal on the N1 where police were conducting a day-to-day, stop-and-search operation.

It was later identified after interrogating the driver that he was making his way to Musina, Limpopo. The man could not account as to where he had received the money or where he was taking it.

He was arrested on the spot as he could not provide a reason why he was carrying such a large amount in the vehicle.

According to the Hammanskraal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela, after stopping the man police searched the vehicle and found a cash amount of R1.5 million in the car.

The police have opened a case of money laundering against the man and he will appear in the Moretele (Temba) Magistrate’s Court within 48 hours.
