Six suspects have been arrested in connection with a bank robbery in Temba, Hammanskraal on Thursday night.
Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said 13 suspects had targeted Nedbank branch at Kopanong complex.
“They gained access to the bank from the TAB horse betting building next door. First they broke into the horse betting building, dug a hole through the wall and gained access to the bank,” said Chabangu.
“The suspects used a grinder and other equipment to break through the wall. While inside the bank they used the grinder to open the cash safe. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash,” Chabangu added.
Three security guards from EC security company, who had responded to an alarm that went off at the bank, were overpowered and tied up with cable ties.
