Police officer killed in multi-vehicle accident in Daan de Wet Nel Street.

An off-duty police officer was killed in an accident in Daan de Wet Nel Street on Monday evening.
According to Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale, the officer was from the Erasmia police station.
“A warrant officer from Erasmia CID was involved in an off-duty multi-vehicle accident in Daan de Wet Nel Street in Heatherdale. Tragically, he was killed in the accident.”
She added that an arrest has been made. “A suspect has been arrested and a case of drunken driving and culpable homicide has been opened.”
According to unconfirmed reports, the officer was driving his Toyota Tazz when he was hit from behind by a bakkie. The officer then managed to get out of the car before collapsing and succumbing to his injuries seconds later. The driver of the bakkie was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and also sustained some injuries. He was taken to hospital for medical care.
Mogale added that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is still underway.
