Police arrest three armed men
Police have arrested three men for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Three men, one of whom was on parole, were arrested on Friday in Mamelodi East for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe said a Mamelodi East patrol vehicle approached a stationary vehicle, parked on the side of the road in extension 6. “Four men stood around the stationary car deeply engaged in conversation with the occupants,” he said.
As the patrol car moved closer, the men ran in different directions, trying to escape.
Police moved swiftly and the men were quickly surrounded within minutes except for one who got away. Police found three unlicensed pistols and ammunition in their possession.
The men were between 31 and 37 years of age.
“All of them were locked in Mamelodi East holding cells. They will be charged for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” Mbewe said.
He said more charges could be added because cell phones were also found in their possession.
