Matsatsantsa schooled by the ‘Clever Boys’
Supersport United were sent packing as they went down to Wits in the MTN 8 clash.

Supersport United crashed out of the MTN 8 when they lost 3-1 to Bidvest Wits in extra-time at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening.
Matsatsantsa lost the game in extra-time when Daine Klate and Henrico Botes found the back of the net in quick succession to hand the victory to the clever boys, thus giving them a semi-final berth. The match finished 1-1 on regulation time.
The game started like a house on fire when midfield maestro Sibusiso Vilakazi opened the scoring as early as the 4th minute after getting a sublime pass from Elias Pelembe in the wing. Wits nearly made it two nil in 10 minutes but Klate failed to find the net when scoring looked easier than missing.
Supersport started to find their way back into the match and towards the half-hour mark, New Zealander defender Michael Boxall saw his header go inches wide. Thuso Phala also came close as Matsatsantsa looked to get an equaliser before half-time; his stunning shot was saved by former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Moenep Josephs.
Supersport began the second-half like they ended the first, with attacks coming from all parts of the ground. Gordon Igesund’s troops eventually found the goal through a classy chip from Jeremy Brookie after receiving a pass from Dove Wome.
Matsatsantsa kept piling up the pressure but they couldn’t beat Josephs again as the game seemed destined for extra-time.
Just before the final whistle blew for extra-time, a moment of madness saw striker Kingston Nkhatha getting a red card for dissent.
Wits took advantage of the situation and eight minutes into the first-half of extra-time, Klate restored the Wits’ lead, making up for his first-half miss.
Supersport were hit by a sucker punch when Botes all but sealed the match and gave the clever boys a 3-1 win.
In another MTN 8 clash, Ajax Cape Town defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium to join Wits in the Semi Final.
