Rand Water averts strike
Rand Water has successfully concluded negotiations with its Samwu members thereby averting an indefinite strike that would have resulted in water supply interruptions in Gauteng and other provinces.

The potentially crippling strike that could have resulted in far-reaching water shortages has been averted, announced water utility Rand Water at the weekend.
This after SA municipal workers union members threatened to go on an indefinite strike following the collapse of salary negotiations last week.
Rand Water supplies water to Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West and the Free State.
Justice Mohale, media relations manager at Rand Water, said: “The negotiation was robust and dynamic but it was concluded in good faith.
“Throughout the negotiation, Rand Water continued to supply high quality water to all our customers,” he said without specifying if water tanks were used.
He did not divulge the terms of the agreement with the workers.
Last week, Lindela Mashigo, spokesperson for the Tshwane metro said that the metro was prepared for the “anticipated interruptions to water supply, should union members go on strike”.
“We would like to assure our consumers that there is a contingency plan in place should there be an interruption to water supplies,” said Mashigo.
He added that the city would do everything possible to ensure that water interruption was minimal. “We have filled most of our reservoirs. Furthermore, the city has its own water sources such as boreholes, water treatment plants and Magalies Water. However, consumers are urged to continue to use water sparingly,” he urged.
