Abundance of stolen car parts found
A 28-year-old man was arrested after police found a stolen vehicle hidden in a garage at his Winterveld home, near Mabopane.
A man was arrested this week after police found a stolen vehicle hidden in a garage at his Winterveldt home, near Mabopane.
Police raided the home earlier this week, and found a vehicle recently reported stolen as well as an assortment of car parts in the yard.
“When the team searched the garage, they discovered a white Toyota Hilux that was stolen in Soshanguve on Tuesday,” said Loate police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu.
“A Ford engine reported stolen from Greenwood Park was found in one of the bedrooms and an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
“The 28-year-old man will be charged with theft, possession of stolen goods and motor vehicle as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”
Chabangu applauded the officers for their efforts and thanked the community for tipping the police off.
In another recent bust, Soshanguve police raided a chop shop in Block KK in Soshanguve after locals complained to the police about the noise from this property.
Police investigated and discovered a chop shop in the back yard. Cars and car parts to the value of R500 000 were recovered and two men, aged 53 and 38, were arrested.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said police found a Mitsubishi stolen in Atteridgeville and a Toyota Corolla stolen in Pretoria.
“Those arrested claimed they worked for another man. They face charges of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of [stolen] motor vehicle parts,” he said.
A third related case was that of a Mabopane scrapyard owner with stolen car parts in his possession. The man and his seven employees were arrested in Mabopane after police received a tip-off.
Police searched the yard and discovered suspected stolen car parts. A bonnet, boot lids, wheels, a grill and bumper were seized.
The owner faces charges of possession of stolen goods and his workers theft and fraud for stripping off car parts for their boss.
All the cars recovered were taken to the Pretoria West police station where they await being matched to the rightful owners.
Mangena said: “Crime will not prosper unless the community steps up and takes ownership and stops helping criminals by hiding their loot.”
