Police officer apparently shot wife before turning the gun on himse
A police officer shot dead his wife before killing himself at the police college in Pretoria West on Monday.
This happened at the couple’s house near the shooting range of the college, said provincial police spokesperson Captain Doniah Mothutsane.
“An off-duty tactical response team member fatally shot himself and his wife earlier today.”
Sergeant Thamsanqa Tsolo (40) and his 39-year-old wife had two children — a 17-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl.
Cluster police spokesperson Captain Augustine Selepe said a neighbour heard a shot from the house around 09:00.
“After hearing the gunshot, the woman was afraid to leave her house and called for someone to investigate. A captain at the college was alerted and went to the couple’s house.”
Selepe said the captain found two bodies on the floor of the living room.
“The paramedics were called out to the college.”
The sergeant’s wife worked for a fried chicken outlet.
“The boy did not live with the couple and the little girl was at pre-school when the shooting happened,” said Selepe.
Best Care Ambulance services spokesperson Xander Loubser said: “The couple was declared dead by our paramedics. Further details as to what happened would form part of police investigations.”
