Worker stabs elderly woman to death

Police are searching for a 25-year-old worker after an elderly woman was stabbed to death.

An elderly woman was stabbed to death and her son wounded when a man broke into their Wonderboom home on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson Mirna Von Benecke said this happened on Apiesdoring Avenue around 05:30.

She said the attacker, a 32-year-old man, was believed to have been a man in their employ. He ran away after the attack.

“He broke into the house and attacked a man and his mother. His mother, who was in her 60s, was stabbed and she died on the scene.”

Von Benecke said her son, who was in his 40s, also suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital after he alerted police.

“The suspect fled with a cellphone,” she said.

Von Benecke said the intruder apparently also broke into their business a few kilometres from the murder scene.

“He entered the safe and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. We cannot confirm whether this happened before or after the attack.”

Police were investigating, she said.
