Nearly 10 years after the high court ordered the Tshwane metro to provide housing to residents relocated from De Villiershof to Soshanguve, most are still waiting even though the houses are standing empty.

Resident leader, Edward Ntlati said about 600 families were relocated to Soshanguve extension 12b on 27 November 2006 and the metro agreed to a June 2007 deadline.

“Only about 20 received houses in extension 12b and about 40 families in extension 13,” he said. “The balance is still waiting.”

DA councillor, Alderman Gert Pretorius petitioned the mayor [Kgosientso Ramokgopa] requesting him to complete the RDP housing project in ward 37 Extension 12 last month.

But a follow-up meeting between the petition committee and residents was postponed pending an inspection of the houses.

Ntlati said he had been given 22 October as the new date for the committee meeting.
