Residents from Extensions 5, 12 and 37 of Soshanguve have submitted a petition to the Tshwane metro to investigate allegations of fraud and corruption in the allocation of houses and stands in the area.
They were accompanied by DA councillor Gert Pretorius who said he was there to ensure the residents’ grievances were taken seriously.
He said the petition was signed by more than 100 residents.
“Some of the residents have evidence, in black and white, that they have been defrauded,” said Pretorius.
He said corruption, especially in the housing sector, was rife in the community and residents were fed up.
“They know who the corrupt people are… they want corrupt officials to be charged,” said Pretorius.
Pretorius said because the petition was signed by more than 100 residents, the city council was legally bound to schedule a hearing within 30 days to look into the concerns raised.
The council has accepted and filed the petition and will set a hearing later, said Pretorius.
