Growing up in the dusty streets of Mabopane, Thabo Malema’s dream was to become a farmer or a miner just like his father, Patrick.

However, as his determination and hard work started to pay off, he would end up landing an acting role on e-tv soapie, Gold Diggers.

Malema (29) plays Ronald Gumede in the soapie.

In the storyline, Gumede recently received the good news that his wife is pregnant with his first child.

His dominant traits include secretive, loving, introverted, bitter, shy, playful and carefree.

“He wants to make his family proud and show them he is good at everything he does,” said Malema of his character.

“He is a quiet person and afraid of expressing himself, he bottles up his emotions until he explodes.”

Ronald, who is Patrick Gumede’s second child to his first wife Ruth, is an optimist seeking nothing more than to live happily with his wife, foraging off the land.

Ronald and, his wife, Hlengiwe battled to conceive and have been trying muthi to conceive.

Theirs was an arranged marriage but he has grown to love her.

He has a bad knee, which is the reason, he could not go and join his father in the mines but stayed behind to work the land and look after the family.
