NATIONAL NEWS: VIDEO – Family hides in study during robbery

CCTV footage shows armed robbers storming into a house in Van Riebeeck Park, on the East Rand.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery after an unknown number of armed robbers broke into a house on Blignaut Street in Kempton Park on Sunday just after 3pm, the Citizen reports.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the suspects’ vehicle is seen pulling over in front of the gate of the house in Van Riebeeck Park, on the East Rand.

Two of the suspects are seen exiting the car and lifting the gate off its rails. The suspects’ vehicle then reverses into the yard.

Norkem Park police spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme said a woman and her two children were at home when armed robbers, driving a silver Mercedez Benz, lifted the gate off its rails and broke into the house, Kempton Express reported.

“Three TVs, two laptops, three cellphones and two tablets were stolen. The stolen goods have an estimated value of about R200 000,” added Molokomme.

In a separate incident, a case of burglary was opened after CCTV footage emerged showing robbers breaking into two houses in Eldoraigne, Centurion, in June.

Tania Neethling, whose house was burgled, said the robbers took their time before entering the house. In the footage, they are seen driving past the house several times before stopping in front of the house at about 10.45am. They rang the bell a few times to see if someone was home before breaking in.
