Public urged to report attempted abduction activities

The public is urged to report any suspicious activities related to the recent attempted kidnapping cases, rather than posting them on social media.

Police urged the public to come forward and report any suspicious vehicles after rumours of a certain car that could be linked to the recent attempted abduction cases circulated on social media on Thursday.

According to various posts on Facebook, a white car with registration number FVF979MP was spotted around the Brooklyn area and was allegedly occupied by the men linked to the attempted abductions.

Brooklyn sector 4 community policing forum’s (CPF) safety operations manager Trish Scheepers said the report came from one of her members.  Scheepers said however that it could not be confirmed.

Garsfontein police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said people need to come forward to make an official police statement should they spot any suspicious activities.

“Once they have made a statement, we can investigate and formulate a case. We urge the public to be vigilant and to give evidence in writing rather than report it to social media.”

In the recent weeks Rekord reported on numerous attempted abduction incidents in parts of Pretoria east and Centurion.

Police have issued identikits of two men who could be involved.
