Pistorius starts serving community service

Oscar Pistorius started serving his community service on Saturday.

Paralympian Oscar Pistorius was seen walking into the Garsfontein police station on Saturday morning on his first day of community service.

The athlete was serving the remainder of his five year sentence under correctional supervision after he was released from jail last month.

One of the conditions of his release on correctional supervision included community service.

The Supreme Court of Appeal was still to hand down its decision on the state appeal against the culpable homicide finding by the trial judge in the North Gauteng High Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) requested the appeal court to overturn Judge Thokozile Masipa’s culpable homicide judgement handed down last year and argued that the former athlete should instead be convicted of murder.

He was convicted in September last year for shooting and killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013.
