The police recently arrested a woman for impersonating a Road Accident Fund (RAF) official in Atteridgeville.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the woman was arrested inside the bank for suspected fraud.
“It is alleged the woman, who is in her 40s, went to a house in Soulsville, Atteridgeville, where she found an old lady alone. She told the granny that money paid into her account by the RAF was by mistake and therefore it had to be withdrawn,” he said.
Moloto said the old woman immediately contacted her daughter, who became suspicious and immediately contacted the bank to close the account.
“The bank called the police while the suspect was still inside just before the transaction was made. She was found in possession of a bank card that did not belong to her. The suspect was also not an employee of the RAF,” he said.
Moloto said a case of fraud had been opened, and the woman will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
