TUT students set vehicles and halls ablaze
TUT students set fire to campus property Saturday night.
Students burned down three halls and two vehicles on the Soshanguve campus of the Tshwane University of Technology on Saturday night, said provincial police spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng.
Mofokeng said in a media statement a group of students gained access to the campus at around 22:30.
They set alight the three halls on the premises and two private vehicles belonging to campus security guards.
The vehicles damaged were a Nissan bakkie and Mazda.
Firemen were called to the scene to extinguish the flames.
“No arrests have yet been made,” Mofokeng said.
“Presently the situation is under control. Public order police are monitoring the situation.”
Malicious damage to property was being investigated, Mofokeng said.
