Four men are on the run after an attempted burglary at a house in Selborne Avenue in Lyttelton on Friday.

Centurion Concerned Citizens spokesperson Hannes Du Buisson said they were travelling in a metallic green Audi station wagon.

“When the owner of a property got home Friday morning, he found intruders had just gained entry into the yard and were on their way to break in,” said Du Buisson.

“When they realised that they had been spotted, they tried to leave. But they could not because the owner’s car was blocking the entrance to the yard.”

One of the men took a pick handle and smashed several of his car’s windows in a bid to get the owner to leave.

The windscreen of the car was extensively damaged in the process, but the owner jumped in the car and drove to the nearest police station.

Du Buisson said an attempted robbery, trespassing and malicious damage to property were being investigated

He urged anyone with information on the matter to call the police on 10111 or SMS crime line on 32211.
