Two shopping centres were robbed of thousands of rands on Sunday, in Pretoria West and Atteridgeville.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said no one was hurt during the two robberies.
“The first robbery happened in Pretoria West at 9:55 in Quagga shopping centre. Three men entered the Markham store and held staff hostage at gun point, two of the three suspects were armed with 9mm pistols,” she said.
Selepe said R7 000 was stolen, together with clothing and about 40 cellphones.
The store did not have any CCTV cameras, Selepe said.
In the other incident, three men robbed the Exact shop at gunpoint in Attlyn Mall.
“The suspects took cash out of the tills and held staff hostage inside the storeroom where there was a safe. The three ordered staff to open the safe and put the boxes of [new] cellphones into a bag,” she said.
Selepe said there were no cameras in the shop.
“There is footage on the premises but it is obscured by a tree. The total value of items lost and cash stolen is R78 300. Suspects are unknown and still on the run,” she said.
