Mystery still surrounds a weekend shooting in Centurion that left a security guard in a critical condition.

The man, apparently a private security guard, was shot twice on the corner of Nellmapius and Olievenhoutbosch roads on Saturday.

One of the bullets hit him in the head and he was rushed to hospital. His was still in a critical condition on Tuesday.

Braam Kruger, spokesperson for Emer-G-Med, said it was unclear how many assailants were involved or whether anything was stolen.

The man was taken to Unitas hospital and later transported to Steve Biko academic hospital.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the police anonymously through the Stop Crime line: 08600 10111.
