Police confirmed a fourth robbery at the same residence in Elardus Park after an intruder was shot, wounded and arrested with his two accomplices on Wednesday morning.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said it was unfortunate this was the fourth robbery at the Britstone Street residence.
He said the three others were two in November 2009 and one in August 2010.
“Police cannot confirm at this stage if the arrested men are the same culprits involved in the other three robberies,” Gumbu said.
He said the wounded perpetrator was under police guard at the Tembisa Hospital and all three would appear in court soon.
He said one of the arrested men was on bail at the time of the crime.
Police are ready for criminals who think they can evade the law,” said Gumbu.
“We have a plan in place that would help us fight crime even better, especially as the festive season nears.”
He said it was important for police to be two or even three steps ahead of criminals in order to make arrests.
Three men gained entry onto the yard of a property in Britstone Street but were spotted.
“It was a young 17-year-old girl who saw them and alerted Bull Security,” Gumbu said.
Gumbu said when security officers arrived at the scene, the men were inside the house.
There was an exchange of gunfire between the three men and security officers and one robber was injured.
Two men were arrested taken into custody and Netcare 911 took the injured one to the Tembisa Hospital.
Bull security spokesperson JP Griesel confirmed his security officers were involved in a shootout with the robbers and injured one.
He said Lyttelton police, Directorate of Specialized Security, Bull Security and Netcare 911 were on the scene.
