A man was arrested for a suspected car theft attempt in Hermanstad, Hercules on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the 29-year-old man was arrested while trying to steal a car in Taljaard Street.

“The owner of the vehicle, Marius van der Merwe, was at work when somebody informed him there were people pushing his car. When he approached his car, he saw the two suspects busy pushing his Nissan Sentra. When they saw him, the suspects jumped into their BMW and drove off.

“Another suspect inside the Nissan was apprehended by the owner while attempting to drive off.”

Msimango said the two suspects were still at large and they were investigating.

“The arrested suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon,” he said.
