Man shot dead at Irene shopping centre

A man was killed when he was shot at a shopping centre in Irene on Friday.

A man was shot dead near Railway’s Café in Irene, Centurion, on Friday night.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Asnath Malatsi said the man was approached outside the cafe by two men, then shot him.

“It seems they wanted to mug him,” she said.

She said the man died on the scene.

According to TJ Bryant of Railway’s Café, the shooting happened on the other side of the shopping centre.

Bryant said they became aware of the shooting when a lady came into the shop to ask for help.

“A lady came running to our shop asking for help. We then proceeded to the other side to assist,” he said.

Malatsi said no arrests had been made and a case of murder was being investigated.
