Shopping safety tips
Police give shoppers safety tips during the festive seasons.
Villieria police are urging the public to be vigilant of their surroundings, diligent in safekeeping their belongings.
During the festive period, many people go on a shopping spree and sometimes become careless or let their guard down.
Captain Coba Brits has given the following safety tips to shoppers this festive:
– Keep your handbag close against your body.
– Carry your wallet somewhere not visible – not in your back pocket.
– Do not put your handbag on the counter and walk or turn away.
– Do not leave handbags or other possessions in a supermarket trolley.
– Stay away from deserted or dark areas.
– As far as possible, leave valuables at home.
– If you are attacked or robbed, do not offer resistance or look at your attacker – your life is worth more than money.
Brits also urged pedestrians to avoid crossing the highways.
“For the safety of the pedestrians, we ask them to use alternative routes and not cross the N1 or N4.”
“Villieria police wishes the public a safe and crime-free Christmas and new year may crime decrease in the area by working together in the fight against crime,” she said.
