Woman kills robber east of Pretoria
Young woman was wounded by a robber after her mother shot dead his accomplice.
A woman has shot dead a would-be robber after he entered her house in Die Wilgers, east of Pretoria.
His accomplice got away and was still on the run, said police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits.
The shooting was on Sunday night around 21:00.
Brits said two men confronted a young woman, the owner’s daughter, when she went to see why the family’s dogs were barking.
“The family was having dinner outside when the young woman went to check on the dogs. When she got to the door she was confronted by two men,” she said.
“The men with firearms forced her and the family inside the house and ordered them to lie on the floor.”
Brits said the mother was taken to the passage of the house when her daughter slipped aside to get her mother’s firearm.
“The woman gave the firearm to her mother who shot one of the suspects twice. He fell down and died from his wounds,” explained Brits.
She said when the other men returned fire, the daughter was struck in the back.
“The young woman is in hospital in a stable condition.”
A Walter 9mm firearm with no serial number was recovered. The two men were dressed in dark clothing, wore gloves and spoke English. Both men were in their 30s.
Brits said nothing was taken in the robbery attempt, but the police were investigating.
She urged anyone with information on the matter to call the Garsfontein police on 012-470-4200.
