BREAKING NEWS: Driver shot during police shootout

Man struck and killed by stray bullet during a police chase in Centurion.

A courier for Centurion radiologists was killed when he was hit by a stray bullet during a police chase on Friday afternoon.

He was was on his way om a motorcycle back from one of the company’s offices when he was hit, said Florance Skinner, HR manager of Dr De Beer De Jager Radiologist.

Police were reportedly chasing a hijacked panel van. The pursuit began in Boeing Street in Pierre van Ryneveld and ended on the corner of Cradock and Trichardt streets in Centurion.

Two men were apparently arrested and a third one escaped.

Skinner said further details of the shooting were not immediately available.

“The driver was a very friendly person and was always laughing, never frowning. He was on his way back from one of our offices when he was shot dead.”

The name of the driver is known to Rekord and we have decided not to publish it as his next of kin has not been notified yet.
