Mystery continues after bodies were found in Hennops river

The death of a couple found in the Hennops river remains a mystery as police investigations continue.

The death of Piet (59) and Evah Beetge (49) remains a mystery to the families mourning their passing.

The married couple was discovered dead in the Hennops river on Sunday 27 December.

A friend of the family told Rekord earlier that the couple had been living in Pretoria Moot for the past 10 years. They were allegedly reported missing from the home they rented in Capital Park on 26 December by Evah’s daughter.

“We last saw them on Christmas…” said Jan and Christie Beetge (Piet’s brother and his wife) on Friday.

The family was heartbroken after the passing of Piet and Evah.

“They loved each other very much,” Christie said.

Despite their racial difference, both their families loved the kind, caring couple, who had been together for nine years and married for four years.

The circumstances around their death, pointing to that of a brutal murder, had come as a shock to those who knew them.

They had apparently been robbed and after their bodies were discovered in the Hennops river, police found signs of serious head injuries and strangulation on both victims.

It was alleged arrests were made relating to their murder, but police could not confirm this.

In 2014, February and March two separate cases of murder was opened after the bodies of two women were found in and near the Hennops river.

The first case was opened in February after the body of a woman was discovered on the riverbank next to the Hennops river in Raslouw. The second body was discovered by a fisherman in the Hennops river in Atteridgeville.

A memorial service for the Beetge couple will be held on Monday at the Pneuma Life Church in Centurion at 10:00.
