Two people appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, for the murders of Piet (59) and Evah Beetge (49).

Police spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said Bonolo Lekalakala (19) and Thopelo Molokomme (25), who were arrested on 7 January, would be reappear in court on Friday, 15 January.

Piet and Evah Beetge’s bodies were discovered in the Hennops river on Sunday 27 December, and a case of murder was opened at the Wonderboompoort police station.

A friend of the family told Rekord earlier that the couple had been living in Pretoria Moot for the past 10 years.

They were allegedly reported missing from the home they rented in Capital Park on 26 December by Evah’s daughter.

“We last saw them on Christmas…” said Jan and Christie Beetge (Piet’s brother and his wife) on Friday.

The family were heartbroken.

“They loved each other very much,” Christie said.

The inter-racial couple, who were described as “kind and caring” had been together for nine years and married for four.

Injuries they both sustained point to a brutal murder; they had apparently been robbed and police found signs of serious head trauma and strangulation on both.

In February and March 2014, bodies of two women were found in and near the Hennops river.

A memorial service for the Beetge couple will be held on Monday, at the Pneuma Life Church in Centurion at 10:00.
