Cop beheaded while ferrying prisoner
A police officer was decapitated when he transported a prisoner on the N1 on Thursday.
A police officer was decapitated when his car collided with a wall on the N1 after he was attacked by a prisoner he was transporting, Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said on Thursday.
She said the Limpopo officer was taking the man to Pretoria for a court appearance.
The prisoner was handcuffed with his hands in front of him where he was seated in the back. He attacked the detective while they were driving in the N1, north of Pretoria, said a Modimolle police officer.
“He choked the warrant officer from behind. The officer lost control of the car on the highway near the Stormvoël Road off-ramp and drove into a wall.”
Nxumalo said the officer was decapitated in the crash and was found dead on the scene.
“His head was cut off from the neck.”
Nxumalo said the prisoner was severely injured and was transported to hospital under police guard.
“The man, who is originally from Limpopo, is now facing multiple charges.”
