A 38-year-old man was arrested for perjury after he opened a case of house breaking in Pretoria North on Thursday.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlane, the man sold his fridge and washing machine before opening a case at the Pretoria North police station.
“The suspect went to Cash Converters and sold his fridge and washing machine. Later that day, he opened a case and claimed his house was broken into,” she said.
Phatlane said while they were investigating his case, a worker at Cash Converters tipped the police.
“We were tipped that the suspect sold his items that morning. We then called him to Cash Converters in Nina Park where we had him arrested.”
“The man is also accused of perjury in a separate case, after he sold his boss’ two laptops. He went on and opened a case at a different police station where he claimed he was robbed,” she said.
Phatlane said the man appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on a charge of perjury. “If someone is caught giving false information to the police, he/she will be arrested with immediate effect,” she said.
