Scores arrested in Sunnyside

Sunnyside police arrested 67 people at the weekend for various crimes.

Police arrested 67 people in anti-crime swoop in Sunnyside at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said the stop-and-search operation was conducted by the Sunnyside cluster and members of the Tshwane metro police.

“The suspects were arrested for crimes such as house robbery, drugs, public violence, possession of stolen goods, the pointing of a firearm, business robbery, theft, fraud, and public drinking,” she said.

“We are doing everything it takes to ensure that the community is safe and we urge everyone to work with us in order to eliminate crime.”

All those arrested were expected to appear in court soon, Brits said.

In Pretoria North, 53 people were arrested during the operation.

“One suspect was arrested for attempted murder in Pretoria North. The others were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of drugs to driving under the influence of alcohol,” she said.
