Shot Tshwane councillor laid to rest

Shot former Tshwane councilor, William Mahlangu (42) buried in Hammanskraal.

Councillor William Mahlangu (42) who died a week ago in hospital after he was shot last year in September, was buried in Hammanskraal on Saturday.

Mahlangu, a member of the Tshwane mayoral committee responsible for finance, was shot while returning from a committee meeting.

He had since been in hospital with a bullet lodged in his chest.

He was shot and wounded in a hijacking at Mabopane’s Block B section.

The hijackers stole his shoes before driving away in his car. He was taken to the Dr George Mukhari hospital where his condition was described as stable after the bullet was removed from his chest.

Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa said Mahlangu was one of the people instrumental in the formation of the local government system as it is known today.

Speaker after speaker, friends, family members, colleagues and comrades lauded Mahlangu as a cadre who was never afraid to undertake a difficult task.

He is survived by two wives, eight children and one grandchild.
